This Is How it Starts: Tacoma Narrows' Debut Album!

Hello friends! I'm here today to tell you about Tacoma Narrows: a Harlem-based folk-rock band that has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise $15,000 to put together their first album, "This Is How It Starts"! Not only does this sextet really know how to rock, but I love the way they have all come to know each other, one new friendship at a time, united by their common passion for music and a great zest to create something wonderful and unique. Each member of Tacoma Narrows brings something of his or her own to the band's over-all sound and image and the result is truly upbeat and glowing!

Tacoma Narrows is composed of Cheney Munson on guitar and vocals, Will Roble on drums, Jason Theobald on fiddle, Jim Bisbee on bass, Corrie Mathias on vocals and Luca del Puppo on mandolin and electric guitar.

Cheney is a former middle school English teacher, Will was a math teacher at the same school and is currently heading up a middle school math program for a network of schools throughout New York and Connecticut, Jason is a medical student, Jim is working on his PhD in Political Science and Corrie is also finishing up her studies. Luca, after years spent living in Florence, returned to the U.S. to play with different bands, opening for acts like The Strokes and Dickey Betts. For several years he focused on a career in the film industry as Director of Photography, but moved back to New York City to pursue his musical career.

Their start was at Paddy Reilly's Music Bar in 2010 and now you can hear them perform at venues all around New York, such as Stage 2 at Rockwood Music Hall and The Bowery Electric. Ciao amici! Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di Tacoma Narrows, un gruppo folk-rock del Harlem, che ha di recente lanciato una campagna su Kickstarter per raccogliere i fondi necessari per produrre il loro primo album, "This Is How It Starts". Non solo si tratta di una band capacissima di far ballare il loro pubblico, ma quello che trovo davvero bello di loro è il modo in cui si sono conosciuti nel tempo, un'amicizia nuova alla volta, uniti dalla loro passione comune per la musica e un grandissimo entusiasmo per creare qualcosa di unica. Ogni membro di Tacoma Narrows porta qualcosa di suo al suono e all'immagine della band e il risultato è davvero positivo e raggiante!

Tacoma Narrows è composto da Cheney Munson alla chitarra e al microfono, Will Roble alla batteria, Jason Theobald al violino, Jim Bisbee al basso, Corrie Mathias al microfono e Luca del Puppo al mandolino e alla chitarra elettrica. Cheney è stato un insegnante d’inglese alle scuole medie per otto anni, Will era un insegnante  di matematica nella stessa scuola e attualmente è alla guida di un programma di matematica per una rete di scuole medie tra lo stato di New York e il Connecticut, Jason studia Medicina, Jim adesso sta lavorando al suo Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienza della Politica e pure Corrie sta concludendo gli studi. Luca, dopo diversi anni vissuti a Firenze, è tornato negli Stati Uniti per suonare con diversi gruppi, aprendo i concerti per artisti come The Strokes e Dickey Betts. Per molto anni si è concentrato sulla carriera nel cinema, come Direttore della Fotografia, ma poi ha deciso di tornare a New York  City per portare avanti il suo percorso musicale.

La loro prima piazza è stata la Paddy Reilly's Music Bar nel 2010, ma ora è possibile vederli suonare nei vari locali in tutta New York, come Stage 2 al Rockwood Music Hall e The Bowery Electric. Io di certo non vedo l'ora di vederli suonare dal vivo la prossima volta che vado a NYC!! Rainy Day Brunching in NYC: The Butcher's Daughter

It was a rainy day here in Viareggio…

It's been so hot and sunny that the sudden change caught me a bit off guard, but the cool air is rather refreshing…It reminds me of a particularly special Saturday spent in New York during my last visit in April…

Egidio and I spent a very sunny morning roaming around the Village, exploring quirky boutiques, discovering funky art galleries and shooting photos for a clothing brand. We were having a great time and wanted to savor each and every second of it as it was also the last day of our stay in NYC. Just as we both started to feel a bit hungry, we happened upon a lovely little vegetarian café called The Butcher's Daughter. We chose to sit outside at the cute wooden picnic tables and, as we sat there enjoying our meal, the sky turned cloudy and grey, the winds picked up and it started to rain. At this time, the outdoor seating was covered with scaffolding because they were doing construction work above the restaurant, so we were able to stay seated outside with the rain coming down all around us. It was wonderful!! We only decided to move inside the restaurant for our tea afterwards, as we started to get a bit cold. The indoor area is so bright and colorful that we were very happy to have had the experience of sitting inside as well. We chose a spot in the window so that we could sip our tea and continue to watch the rain. The staff was extremely friendly and gracious and made our meal really enjoyable. It was a lovely place to spend part of our afternoon and enjoy the rain from a warm, dry, happy spot… ;)

P.S. I tried the Egg Sandwich Platter: two scrambled eggs, cashew carrot cheese, avocado, kale, tomato jam on toasted 7-grain bread and served with roasted potato hash. Egidio ordered the same, but had his served as an open sandwich with poached eggs instead of scrambled.

After, we tried the Hot Golden Elixir tea: lemon, ginger, honey and echinacea.

Yum!

É stata una giornata di pioggia qui a Viareggio…

Ultimamente fa così caldo che il cambiamento di clima è stato inaspettato, ma un po' di aria fresca è stata decisamente gradita…Questo tempo mi fa pensare ad un sabato particolarmente speciale trascorso a New York, quando sono stata là ad Aprile…

Io e Egidio abbiamo passato quella mattinata di sole girando per il Village, esplorando alcuni boutique eccentrici, scoprendo delle gallerie d'arte bizzarre e facendo foto per una brand di vestiti. Ci stavamo divertendo tantissimo e si cercava di vivere a pieno ogni momento, visto che era anche l'ultimo giorno del nostro soggiorno Newyorchese.

Stavamo iniziando a sentire abbastanza la fame quando, per caso, ci siamo trovati davanti ad un café carinissimo (con un menù completamente vegetariano) di nome The Butcher's Daughter (ovvero "la figlia del macellaio"). Abbiamo deciso di sederci fuori, a uno dei loro tavoli da picnic in legno. Mentre stavamo mangiando, il cielo è diventato grigio, si è alzato il vento e ha cominciato a piovere. Quel giorno, i posti a sedere all'esterno erano coperti dall'impalcatura dei lavori in corso sopra il ristorante, così è stato possibile rimanere fuori mentre ha piovuto intorno a noi. É stato meraviglioso!! Abbiamo deciso di entrare dentro il ristorante solo alla fine, per prendere il tè, in quanto era diventato un po' freschino. L'interno del café era così luminoso e colorato! Ci siamo sentiti fortunati, infatti, di aver avuto l'occasione di stare parte del tempo fuori  all'aperto e l'altra parte dentro il locale, in quanto l'ambiente dei due posti era molto diversa. Ci siamo messi a sedere in vetrina, in modo di poter continuare a guardare la pioggia mentre si sorseggiava il tè. Il personale è stato così amichevole e gentile, rendendo così la nostra visita al The Butcher's Daughter davvero piacevole. É stato il posto ideale dove passare parte del nostro pomeriggio, osservando la pioggia da un punto asciutto, caldo e accogliente… ;)

P.S. Io ho ordinato il Egg Sandwich Platter: due uova strapazzate, un formaggio vegetale fatto di anacardi e carote, avocado, insalata e una marmellata di pomodoro, il tutto servito sul pane 7-cereali e con delle patate al forno di contorno. Anche Egidio ha scelto lo stesso piatto, ma con le uova in camicia, invece di strapazzate.

Dopo, abbiamo ordinate il té Hot Golden Elixir: limone, zenzero, miele ed echinacea.

Salve amici in tutto il mondo!
Oggi vi lascio un post veloce per informare chi di voi non lo sappia di già, che sono su Facebook e Instagram! Come sapete, Jet Lag and Jewels è il mio modo di condividere informazioni, pensieri e foto delle cose che amo, dei miei viaggi e delle esperienze e scoperte artistiche e creative che faccio durante queste mie avventure! Mi riempie di una gioia profonda e infinita scrivere per voi e ogni volta che mi metto al computer a preparare un nuovo post mi sembra di scoppiare dalle emozioni! TOLU in the City!

Hello friends!

My favorite time to come home to New York is in Spring/Summer, when the weather is beautiful and I can enjoy some of my favorite spots in the city! It is when I'm able to roam freely and comfortably and truly connect with my city…I walk the full length of Manhattan, enjoying the sounds of the roaring traffic and feeling like I'm part of something incredible. When I step out of the door in the morning I feel as light as a feather and as free as a bird!...Throughout the course of the day I walk down memory lane, visiting places that are special to me from my childhood, as well as making new discoveries about the city I grew up in.

Of course when I'm out n' about it's important for me to be wearing something cute and comfortable, which is why the 100% Made-In-Italy, Tuscan brand, TOLU, was with me at all times on my last New York adventure. I brought some new pieces from their Spring/Summer 2014 collection, like the crop tops, which I wore under a sweater or jacket, so that I was prepared for the lovely walks under the warm glistening sun in Central Park; the amazingly cute girly bow tie, which added the perfect touch of quirkiness to my outfit while I roamed the Village looking for fun boutiques and galleries and, of course, their classic beanie, which I found incredibly useful and comfy during those cooler evenings in Times Square!

Ciao amici!

Primavera/Estate è il momento che preferisco per tornare a New York, quando il tempo è splendido e posso passare molto tempo all'aperto riscoprendo alcuni dei miei punti preferiti della città! Il clima piacevole mi dà la possibilità di girare  comodamente a mio piacimento, sentendo quel forte legame che ho con la mia città…i suoni della città mi accompagnano per tutta l'isola di Manhattan, facendomi sentire parte di un tutto incredibile. La mattina mi sento libera e leggera…durante il corso della giornata faccio tappa nei luoghi della mia infanzia a me molto cari, trovando sempre però, il modo di scoprirne dei nuovi.

Naturalmente, è importante vestirmi in modo comodo per girare la città…lo stile che preferisco è quello del brand toscano, 100% Made-In-Italy, TOLU. Ad accompagnarmi nella mia ultima avventura newyorchese, avevo come me qualche pezzo nuovo della collezione Primavera/Estate 2014, come le canotte, che ho indossato quasi sempre sotto una maglia o un giacchetto, in modo di essere pronta per le belle passeggiate sotto il sole caldo di Central Park; il papillon, che ha aggiunto quel pizzico di eccentricità al mio look mentre giravo per il Village alla ricerca di boutique e gallerie particolari, e, ovviamente, il classico Tolu beanie, il quale ho trovate estremamente utile e di conforto in quelle serate freschine a Times Square!
